Personal:

I was married in 1997 to my beautiful wife Lybi (confessions of a piano teacher on the blog), and we have 3 wonderful boys who are just as active as I was when I was little (he he). I grew up in southeastern Michigan, and my family became members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints when I was 6. I attended BYU, and served a mission in Berlin, Germany. After graduating from BYU with a degree in Health and Human Performance (pre-physical therapy), I promptly changed careers and started working with computers (although no programming for me). We have moved across the country several times, and currently live in Mesa, AZ.  I work in computer security for a major nationwide homebuilder.

Lunch - 4 miles on the treadmill.  First mile at 8:00 pace to warm up, second mile at 7:30 pace, 3rd mile at 7:00 pace (I am considering this marathon pace), then picked up the pace on the last mile to 5K pace - 5:42, to get myself ready for my 5K on Saturday.  It felt good, no issues, I feel good to go for this weekend.  I am looking forward to seeing what I can do, depending on what the weather throws at me.  I am trying to decide if I am also going to do the Moon Valley 5K this year as well, since it is only a few weeks before St. George - I guess I will have to see.

Afterwards, did 1 minute of planks facing downward and 1 minute on each side, then did some knee raises.  Last week when I was sick, I gained back all the weight I had lost so far, and I am hoping some of it is just due to perhaps water retention or something like that.

James, do you know if we're supposed to pick up our timing chips prior to the race or the morning of?

The morning of. They have a table up at the pavilion for picking up your bib, and just next to it, a folding table with all the timing chips. The interesting thing about this race is that it is handicapped by age and gender, so we will be starting in the back. I think this is to avoid a huge bottleneck on some of the roads, because they are kind of skinny. Get everyone down to the canal before people start coming back from the turnaround.

I hope there's enough room for passing. I plan on doing a lot of that.
