Personal:

I was married in 1997 to my beautiful wife Lybi (confessions of a piano teacher on the blog), and we have 3 wonderful boys who are just as active as I was when I was little (he he). I grew up in southeastern Michigan, and my family became members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints when I was 6. I attended BYU, and served a mission in Berlin, Germany. After graduating from BYU with a degree in Health and Human Performance (pre-physical therapy), I promptly changed careers and started working with computers (although no programming for me). We have moved across the country several times, and currently live in Mesa, AZ.  I work in computer security for a major nationwide homebuilder.

Lunch - 6 easy miles on the treadmill at 8:00 pace.  Feeling a little under the weather - scratchy throat, little stuffed up, so I wanted to make sure I took it easy.  Felt very easy today, although it took a minute or two for my legs to warm up.

Update:  I got an email from the St. George marathon and I am IN!  I am excited and hoping that this will be the year that I will be able to break 3 hours.

Let's see, 6 miles at 8 min. pace + time to change + time to shower + time to eat + ... how long 'a lunch break you get, boy?

I normally get about an hour for lunch, so I just eat at my desk after running and do work. Did you register for St. George?

Yep. Didn't get in. Saw that you did, tho. Congrats!

Sorry to hear about that. You may want to check out the Top of Utah marathon since you didn't get into SGM. It is about 2 weeks earlier and is probably the second fastest marathon in Utah. It's on September 19. I was thinking about doing that one if I didn't get into St. George.

It's not a big deal. I kind of would like to do a marathon towards the end of the year, but I also kind of don't want to do one until I'm confident I can qualify for Boston. I really need to start putting in the miles. So I'm not sure if I have enough time to build the necessary base. In signing up for SGM I was hoping to commit myself to do so.

SGM has everything I'm looking for: relatively close, the last half is all downhill, and it's on a Saturday. I did TOU two years ago and didn't like it. The last 8 miles are flat, and it's too far away. So keep your eyes open if you see any more that meet my criteria. :) (criterium?)

James, sub 3:00 this year is also my goal. You need to practice NOT having any shoe issues.

LOL - I am planning on wearing my flats this year - I might just have to superglue the inserts or something just to be safe! We'll have to make sure we meet up in the forward corral this year.
