Personal:

I was married in 1997 to my beautiful wife Lybi (confessions of a piano teacher on the blog), and we have 3 wonderful boys who are just as active as I was when I was little (he he). I grew up in southeastern Michigan, and my family became members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints when I was 6. I attended BYU, and served a mission in Berlin, Germany. After graduating from BYU with a degree in Health and Human Performance (pre-physical therapy), I promptly changed careers and started working with computers (although no programming for me). We have moved across the country several times, and currently live in Mesa, AZ.  I work in computer security for a major nationwide homebuilder.

AM - 5 easy miles outside at 7:51 average pace, then 3 miles inside on the treadmill at 8:00 pace while Lybi ran outisde.  My legs felt fresher from the decreased mileage last week - almost a little too fresh.  Once I got into a rhythm, I found it very difficult to run any slower than about 7:50/mile, and it felt extremely easy, in spite of the temperature being about 90 degrees this morning (I thought it felt kind of hot . . .).  I feel ready to ramp up my mileage this week.  I am shooting for somewhere between 55-60 miles this week.

AM - I feel so stupid - I haven't been very diligent recently about stretching, and today it came back and bit me in the butt.  Started off with the first mile in 8:00, then decided I wanted to do some MP effort, second mile in 6:55.  Third mile in 6:35.  I could tell it was a little too fast.  Fourth mile started off good, but at about the .33 mark, my right calf cramped up.  It didn't pop, so I don't think I strained it, but it sure didn't feel all that good.  Stopped and stretched it out, then finished out the fourth mile at a very easy pace.  Walked the last mile home and am icing my leg as I write this entry.

I am kind of upset, given all the preparations I have made so far for this being my best SGM ever.  Luckily for me, I still have 3 months left - plenty of time - and for the next few weeks, I am going to keep it easy, and shouldn't have to worry too much about losing any aerobic fitness.  Depending on how my leg feels, I may or may not run the rest of this week - if I do, it will be at a very easy pace.  And yes, I have learned my lesson and will make sure to stretch after I run.  I am not like Sasha - I need to stretch to avoid injury.  Thus why I feel stupid . . . well, sometimes we need to have lessons we have already learned reinforced.

AM - after taking a few days off to let my calf heal, I ran with two of my brothers-in-law today, Kriston and Mike.  We ran somewhere around 8:30 pace, not sure because I didn't have the garmin with me.  Total time was 48:00, felt good in spite of the altitude.  This will end up being a big rest week for me, with only 20-30 miles.  Next week I hope to be able to ramp things back up.
