Personal:

I was married in 1997 to my beautiful wife Lybi (confessions of a piano teacher on the blog), and we have 3 wonderful boys who are just as active as I was when I was little (he he). I grew up in southeastern Michigan, and my family became members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints when I was 6. I attended BYU, and served a mission in Berlin, Germany. After graduating from BYU with a degree in Health and Human Performance (pre-physical therapy), I promptly changed careers and started working with computers (although no programming for me). We have moved across the country several times, and currently live in Mesa, AZ.  I work in computer security for a major nationwide homebuilder.

AM - no running, did not get enough sleep (I am noticing a pattern here . . .)

PM - Ran 7 miles on the treadmill while Lybi went off to the Midnight Madness Run with Laura. Anxiously awaiting their report . . .

Started off nice and easy, first 1/2 mile at 8:30 pace, then increased the pace to 7:30 pace for 2 miles. Felt good, decided to put in some MP effort miles, increased speed to 7:03 pace. At first, I was going to do only 2 miles at MP, then 2 miles came and went, and I still felt good, decided to keep it up for another 2 miles. Then cooled down for another 1/2 mile at 8:30 pace. Total time of 51:48, average pace of 7:24/mile. MP effort was very much controlled, no problems with breathing whatsoever, legs felt good, no problems with achilles or top of my foot. I am already starting to get excited for my 1/2 marathon in February. Over the next couple of weeks, I will be working on better gauging my 1/2 MP effort. Right now, I am shooting for 6:40 pace, which would put me at 1:27:24. I think a good goal for me would be sub-1:30. Either this coming Saturday or next, I will plan on putting in an 8 mile tempo run at 1/2 MP effort to see if I can keep it up. If I can make it 8 miles, I have faith that I can continue for another 5.

AM - no running

PM - ran 8 miles outside.  It was quite nice - upper 50's.  Wore shorts and a singlet with a technical tee on top - plenty warm, although my hands got a little cold (kind of hard to write as of this moment).  Legs felt a little dead, probably from the lack of sleep.  Lungs felt good.  Total time for the run was 1:01:27, average pace of 7:41/mile.  I had a hard time maintaining a steady pace - I was fluctuating from between 7:30-7:50/mile.  I also attribute that to lack of sleep.  Planning on getting a good night's sleep tonight, and then will plan on another 8 miler tomorrow.

Ran 8 miles on the treadmill this evening, nice easy pace.  First 1.25 miles at 8:30 pace, the rest at 8:00 pace.  Total time of 1:04:38, average pace of 8:05/mile.  Wasn't feeling 100% before the run and was just going to do a couple and go from there, but felt good during the run.  However, afterwards I don't feel so hot.  Although I took it easy, this may have pushed me over the edge (again!).  I will have to see how I feel in the morning.
