Personal:

I was married in 1997 to my beautiful wife Lybi (confessions of a piano teacher on the blog), and we have 3 wonderful boys who are just as active as I was when I was little (he he). I grew up in southeastern Michigan, and my family became members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints when I was 6. I attended BYU, and served a mission in Berlin, Germany. After graduating from BYU with a degree in Health and Human Performance (pre-physical therapy), I promptly changed careers and started working with computers (although no programming for me). We have moved across the country several times, and currently live in Mesa, AZ.  I work in computer security for a major nationwide homebuilder.

Well, the good old calf cramp struck again.  Got up this morning with the intention of doing 7 miles in the morning, 5 outside and another couple on the treadmill after Lybi went out for her run.  However, after only 1 mile, my calf started tightening up again, and I had to stop and stretch it out.  The next two miles were quite a bit slower, especially the third.  I decided I had had enough and stopped.  It was fairly sore even when walking the last 1/2 mile home.  Stretched out some more.  I think part of the problem may be that my grid tangents have seen their last days - I have probably put somewhere around 500 miles in them.  Until I get my email from road runner sports with my free pair of shoes (I will get another pair of progrid guides), I am going to only wear my guides.  I am also going to have to take it very easy this week until my calf heals up.  Nice slow runs, no faster than 8:30/mile.  Lybi has also promised to scrape my leg tonight.

James what does it mean to scrape your leg, and would it help with my hip flexors and my upper thigh?

Clay, check out the discussion forum on scraping (gua sha). Josse is the expert - in addition to being a certified massage therapist, she has also scraped several bloggers and helped their injuries to "magically" disappear. It is basically a form of massage with an implement to "scrape" out adhesions and get the blood flowing to a certain area. Has worked well for me. You might check it out - if you are still having problems with your hip flexors, it might be something that could help you out.

I knew your picture was from London's Run! I just looked at a picture of mine and saw you in it. I said, "I recognize that guy." Send me an email (burtjmc@hotmail.com) if you want it.
