Personal:

I was married in 1997 to my beautiful wife Lybi (confessions of a piano teacher on the blog), and we have 3 wonderful boys who are just as active as I was when I was little (he he). I grew up in southeastern Michigan, and my family became members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints when I was 6. I attended BYU, and served a mission in Berlin, Germany. After graduating from BYU with a degree in Health and Human Performance (pre-physical therapy), I promptly changed careers and started working with computers (although no programming for me). We have moved across the country several times, and currently live in Mesa, AZ.  I work in computer security for a major nationwide homebuilder.

AM - no running.

PM - It was cold and rainy out, and was pretty late by the time I got the chance to run.  I know, you're thinking "it never rains in Phoenix", but this is two weekends in a row that it has rained now.  Not that we don't need the water, 'cuz we do.  On to the workout.  I was able to fix the treadmill so that the belt wasn't slipping, which was a good thing, because I planned on doing a tempo run today.

Warmed up nice and easy, started off at 8:30 pace for 0.5 miles, then sped up to 8:00 pace for the next 1.5 miles in anticipation of starting my tempo run.  I wanted to be nice and warmed up and have the blood pumping.  At the two mile mark, started my tempo run.  Sped up to 6:20 pace for 2.5 miles, then slowed back down to 8:30 pace for another 2.5 miles for a total of 7 miles.  The entire run was done at an incline of 1.0 on the treadmill to more closely approximate running on the road.  The tempo run felt good, I could have kept it up for at least a couple more miles, probably even up to 10K. although I am not totally sure about that.  Tomorrow's run will be nice and easy.

More power to you, I can't do the treadmill thing. And you even got some good tempo to boot. Nice job!

By the way, your wife cracks me up! I love how she is always trying to rip on me, especially with the whole dog kicking thing. You will have to fill her in on "Little Man Syndrome" .

James W--this is not running related, ready? I was reading your profile and I was just wondering where you grew up in Southeast Michigan? I'm from there, too, and it always makes me curious when I find others who are from there who move west.

I grew up in a town called Manchester, 1500 people, about 20 miles southwest of Ann Arbor, home of the U of M. I miss the trees and rolling hills, but I don't miss the winters . . .
