Personal:

I was married in 1997 to my beautiful wife Lybi (confessions of a piano teacher on the blog), and we have 3 wonderful boys who are just as active as I was when I was little (he he). I grew up in southeastern Michigan, and my family became members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints when I was 6. I attended BYU, and served a mission in Berlin, Germany. After graduating from BYU with a degree in Health and Human Performance (pre-physical therapy), I promptly changed careers and started working with computers (although no programming for me). We have moved across the country several times, and currently live in Mesa, AZ.  I work in computer security for a major nationwide homebuilder.

Ran 3 miles with Sparky after work. Average pace was 7:35. All three of our boys were asleep (that's a first in a very long time!), so it was just me and the dog. Weather outside was absolutely beautiful - sunny and 78. Weather forecast for the Del Sol Relay: Sunny, high of 80, low of 55 for both Friday and Saturday. Will get in some more miles after the boys go to bed (assuming they go to bed on time).

Ran another 4 miles by myself later this evening, after the boys went to bed.  They got to bed later than normal because they all took huge naps this afternoon.  First 3 miles at a nice 7:30 pace, then kicked into another gear for the last mile, somewhere in the vicinity of 6:30.  I wasn't quite expecting that when I stopped the watch (I didn't take the garmin on this run, just wanted to run by feel), but it felt very good.  Ran both the earlier run with Sparky as well as this run in my Saucony Grid Tangents - they feel very good for a lightweight trainer, and don't seem to be giving me the same issues as the Axioms did.  On a side note, it may actually be time for me to switch away from Brooks - I have been having issues where my heels wear a hold in the outer rear of the sockliner and expose the hard plastic heel counter.  It seems to me that perhaps the heel is to wide for me.  Next time I need to get new shoes (probably next month), I will check out some other brands again to see if I can find one with a narrower heel.

James I'm just looking at our trip down there tomorrow and we are trying to decide what way to go. I usually go through Flagstaff but I was wondering what side of town you live on. Would it be better for us to be coming in from the Flagstaff side or the Vegas side?

Let me know when you get a chance. Thanks for all your doing.

We usually go through Las Vegas because of the freeways. I think it was like a 7 1/2 hour drive from St. George to our house - we live in East Mesa. Google maps says to go through Las Vegas as well . . . keep in mind that 4:00 is when the valley freeways start to slow down quite a bit. Do you usually go down the 89? Looks like they are both about the same from a route time perspective. However, you guys are staying at the Hyatt, right? We are about 30 minutes further than the Hyatt.
