Personal:

I was married in 1997 to my beautiful wife Lybi (confessions of a piano teacher on the blog), and we have 3 wonderful boys who are just as active as I was when I was little (he he). I grew up in southeastern Michigan, and my family became members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints when I was 6. I attended BYU, and served a mission in Berlin, Germany. After graduating from BYU with a degree in Health and Human Performance (pre-physical therapy), I promptly changed careers and started working with computers (although no programming for me). We have moved across the country several times, and currently live in Mesa, AZ.  I work in computer security for a major nationwide homebuilder.

PM - 1 mile with Samuel in 10:13.  Then another .65 with Joseph at 11:05 pace.  0.15 with Adam (untimed), then another 3.2 miles on my own later on for a total of 5 for the day.  Knee felt great, no pain at all.  I didn't have the Garmin for my portion, and the laps I was running were about 1.5 miles, so I wasn't real sure about my pace until I finished.  Blog calculator puts me at about 8:10/mile, not to bad since I didn't have the Garmin to gauge my pace and I just went basically off how I felt.  However, this is really at the end of the spectrum of how fast I want to run while I continue to recover.

On another note, I put in my registration for the SGM lottery.  I wasn't able to get a reservation with the Coronada Inn like I have had the past few times, but did get a reservation at the Travelodge (somebody, please tell me it is not too bad there!).  I may still try to get in at the Coronada Inn (I like how close they are to the start, and the rooms are not bad at all), but at least I am covered as it stands right now.

Woohoo!!! St. George, here you come!! You were only like 5 min from a BQ last year, right? I bet this is your year!!!!!!

So, are you guys going to NC again this summer or to a timeshare with your family?

From James W on Tue, Apr 15, 2008 at 16:02:02

Yes, I was actually 4 minutes, 1 second from a BQ. However, I have much loftier goals - I am hoping for a sub-3:00 marathon this year. SGM is no lock yet - still have to get through the lottery, but I am hoping . . .

Vacation - the family is all flying out to Ft. Lauderdale this year (they banked the timeshare this year). Fun, fun, fun in the sun (as if we don't get enough of that already!).

James, I was thinking about registering for St. George--just so I could give you my registration in case you don't get in and I do. Whacha think? If we both get in, I could sell it to someone on the blog who needs it. ORRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR if lightning strikes just the right way and I am somehow able to run a 1:50:59 half before then, I could run St. George.

From Sasha Pachev on Tue, Apr 15, 2008 at 16:15:40

Lybi - the lighting would not have to strike. If you are able to run consistently with no injuries or mental accidents for the next 3 months, you should be able to run 1:50 on a reasonable course. TOU 1/2 is a good one, although quite a drive. Hobble Creek is a bit closer. Provo River Half is a possibility as well. Bryce Canyon is really good in terms of driving distance, and it is only 1:30 slower for a 1:50 time that Hobble Creek. You could probably stay with a blogger in St. George.

From Lybi on Tue, Apr 15, 2008 at 16:22:44

Mental Accidents? Hahahahahaha! You totally crack me up, but I know what you mean. Thanks for the vote of confidence! I really should at least TRY to nip this bad habit of dragging my family to Utah in the bud, though. It's just hard to race in the summer here.

I don't think you can give your registration to someone else if you are unable to run SGM - unlike the Provo City 1/2, which was very accomodating for us :) However, I agree with Sasha that you can do it if you continue to train (you will need to bump up your mileage, tho). Go ahead and register - the chances of at least one of us getting in are pretty good, and if I don't get in, I will plan on another fall marathon.
