Personal:

I was married in 1997 to my beautiful wife Lybi (confessions of a piano teacher on the blog), and we have 3 wonderful boys who are just as active as I was when I was little (he he). I grew up in southeastern Michigan, and my family became members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints when I was 6. I attended BYU, and served a mission in Berlin, Germany. After graduating from BYU with a degree in Health and Human Performance (pre-physical therapy), I promptly changed careers and started working with computers (although no programming for me). We have moved across the country several times, and currently live in Mesa, AZ.  I work in computer security for a major nationwide homebuilder.

AM - no running, slept in.

PM - ran 12 mile long run.  It started out really nice but a little windy, sunny and warm.  First 3 miles seemed a bit faster than I had anticipated, but I was running with a favorable crosswind, so that may have explained things.  Then I turned south and the crosswind turned unfavorable.  But I was in a really good rhythm, and a little wind wasn't going to stop me.  When I turned around at the 6 mile mark, my average pace was 7:51, and I was a little bit worried that I may have taken it out too fast, but decided to keep on going, because I was really on a roll.  When I turned around I got a favorable crosswind again for the next 3 miles.  Felt really good.  Turned west for the last 3 miles, crosswind turned unfavorable again, but I was on the homestretch now.  Total time for the run was 1:33:19, average pace of 7:46/mile.  I was absolutely amazed at how well this run went.  I think a major component was getting enough sleep, which I haven't been doing very well this week.  I need to re-commit to getting enough sleep this next week to 1) avoid getting sick and 2) avoid injuring myself.  Achilles was a bit stiff for the first 1/4 mile, then loosened up and felt good for the rest of the run.  The top of my foot also felt good the entire run.  I will continue to ice it for a few more days.

I think sleep needs to be a little more important in a lot of people's lives! We were made to need it and should use it wisely. Glad it helped you out to get a little extra needed sleep. BTW your new picture on The Lyb Myster's blog looks great!

Nice run James and way to finish strong. I've also found when I run with a lot of sleep before hand I have an excellent week of running. What was the temperature there today. We had a snowy, blowing mess.

Good run James, nice to hear the achilles is getting better. Enough sleep is critical for me, I can run well after poor sleep but the next day is when I notice a deterioration in performance.

Temperature was actually pretty nice when I ran. It was raining for most of the day, but right around 3:00, the rain had stopped, and it warmed up a bit, probably in the mid 60's, with some sun, but kind of windy. It was warm enough that I was running in just shorts and a singlet. Hopefully today's run will help to solidify the necessity for a good night's sleep.

Very solid training lately. Good job getting in the miles when the circumstances make it difficult. On a long run, I never worry if it is too fast. In fact, the faster, the better. You cannot go much faster than marathon pace on those anyway, and marathon pace runs are great for developing glycogen storage.
