Personal:

I was married in 1997 to my beautiful wife Lybi (confessions of a piano teacher on the blog), and we have 3 wonderful boys who are just as active as I was when I was little (he he). I grew up in southeastern Michigan, and my family became members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints when I was 6. I attended BYU, and served a mission in Berlin, Germany. After graduating from BYU with a degree in Health and Human Performance (pre-physical therapy), I promptly changed careers and started working with computers (although no programming for me). We have moved across the country several times, and currently live in Mesa, AZ.  I work in computer security for a major nationwide homebuilder.

AM - I DID IT!  16 mile long run!  Woohoo!  This is my longest run of the year so far.  Still need to get up to 20, but that doesn't seem so daunting now.  Total time for the run was 2:14:28, average pace of 8:24/mile.  Slowest mile was somewhere around 8:32, fastest mile was the last one, 7:58 (I picked it up on the last lap 'cuz I was excited to finish).  I will admit that there were times when I wasn't sure if I could do it, but this was purely mental.  Physically, my legs felt fine.  They started getting a little heavy towards the end, but not too bad.

This also marks my highest mileage week to date, at 54.  That is also exciting to me.

Way to go, James! I still can't imagine doing that myself (even at a way slower pace)... Did you feel alright the next couple days?

Very good. Next week, run easy for 4 miles (8:30), then hard for 10 (around 7:00), then easy the rest of the way. Do not worry about going 20, in fact, I would almost advise against it for another month. You can do it, but it will not yet help you improve your fitness right now, maybe in a couple of week it would be helpful. I would keep all of your long runs at 16.
