Personal:

I was married in 1997 to my beautiful wife Lybi (confessions of a piano teacher on the blog), and we have 3 wonderful boys who are just as active as I was when I was little (he he). I grew up in southeastern Michigan, and my family became members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints when I was 6. I attended BYU, and served a mission in Berlin, Germany. After graduating from BYU with a degree in Health and Human Performance (pre-physical therapy), I promptly changed careers and started working with computers (although no programming for me). We have moved across the country several times, and currently live in Mesa, AZ.  I work in computer security for a major nationwide homebuilder.

I haven't been running as of late due to a recurrence in a slight calf strain on my right leg, but I have been working out so as to lose weight while I am not running, and hopefully when I start up again, it will be easier and less stress on my legs.  I am going to give it another week or so and will then start up again.

Well, even though I planned on waiting a bit longer, I ended up going out for a run tonight.  It has finally cooled off quite a bit here, and the weather was just beautiful.  I just ran around our subdivision twice.  I have already noticed a difference in how easy it is to run, after having dropped about 10 pounds so far.  This run felt very good to my legs, but was a little bit harder on my lungs (I have been dealing with a cough ever since we got back from our ward pioneer handcart trek re-enactment that we had the privilege of taking part in).  Average pace was 7:30/mile.  I will bill this as a progressive run, as each mile was faster than the previous one.  Still felt good, though.

3 more miles outside tonight - another beautiful night, probably in the 60's.  I took it easier today except for the last 1/4 mile or so.  Everything else was around 8:00 pace, but I picked it up at the end.  Felt very good, the weight is continuing to drop off (maybe my eating habits have actually improved, and maybe it has taken a while for all the effects of the pop to clear my system).

PM - 5 miles outside - beautiful weather.  This ended up being another progressive run without meaning to.  First mile was 8:13 - felt good, nice and easy.  Second mile was 7:48, still felt good.  Third mile was 7:38, could tell that I was picking it up.  Fourth mile was (if I recall correctly) 7:14 or so.  Took a little walking break and then cooled down on the last mile, 8:38 or so.  No residual soreness, legs feeling good, I feel like I have some more pop in my legs simply due to weighing less (finally!)  Gonna continue to work on that to get back down to my goal weight.

Another unintended progressive run this evening - just 3 miles.  Started out nice and easy, 8:15 for the first mile.  Second mile was 7:40, and the third mile was 7:05 or so.  Average for the entire run was 7:40/mile
